Before you start
Questions
Answers about Tern checks, plan limits, billing, alerts and status pages.
What does Free include?
Free includes 10 checks at a three-minute interval, one public status page and email alerts. Every plan includes the API and weekly reports. To add an eleventh check, remove one or move to a paid plan.
How do you confirm a failed check?
A failed network check triggers a repeat from a second region. We open an incident and alert you when the second region also reports failure. For cron checks, a second regional worker confirms a missed heartbeat after the deadline and configured grace period.
Do I need a card to start?
No. Sign up for Free without a card and keep it for as long as it suits your needs.
Can I change plans later?
Yes, in account settings. Upgrades take effect when confirmed, with any prorated charge shown first. Downgrades take effect at renewal; reduce your checks, members and status pages to the new limits before then.
How does yearly billing work, and can I get a refund?
Team costs $240 per year and Business costs $790 per year, paid up front. You can request a yearly-plan refund within 30 days of the charge. Monthly plans are not refunded for part months. Email billing@tern.example.com with your invoice reference.
Which countries can receive SMS?
We support SMS delivery to numbers in 140 countries. Check your destination in alert settings and send a test before relying on it. Local carrier restrictions can affect delivery. Team includes 100 SMS per month and Business includes 1,000; purchased credits never expire.
Where is our data stored?
Account data, check history and incident records are stored in the EU in Frankfurt. Monitoring workers run in all six listed regions. Alert delivery providers receive the contact and message data needed to deliver an alert; see the sample privacy page for more detail.
How do I cancel?
Cancel renewal in account settings. Your paid plan stays available until the end of the paid period. Before returning to Free, reduce your account to its limits and export any history you need. You can request account deletion separately.
Can a status page use our own domain?
Yes, on Business. The plan includes up to ten status pages with custom domains. Add the domain in page settings, publish the requested DNS record and wait for verification and certificate setup. Free and Team use a hosted Tern address.
