Terms
Sample terms for using Tern accounts, monitoring and paid plans.
Sample text. This page is a starting point, not legal advice. Replace it with your own terms and have them checked.
These sample terms describe the fictional Tern service and are dated September 1, 2026. Tern is a six-person business based in Leeds, UK. App and checkout addresses in this demonstration are placeholders. No subscription is created and no payment is taken through this site.
Your account and checks
In a working service, the person opening an account must have permission to act for their team. Keep account details accurate, protect login credentials and remove access when a member leaves. You remain responsible for activity carried out using your account and API tokens.
Monitor only endpoints you own or have permission to check. Do not use checks to collect private information from someone else’s service, bypass access controls or send harmful traffic. Use credentials with the smallest permissions needed for a check. We may pause an abusive check and explain the reason to the account owner.
Plans and payments
Free includes ten checks at a three-minute interval. Paid plans use a 30-second interval and have the limits shown on their plan pages. Confirmation, request timeouts and delivery can add delay before an alert reaches you. Tern is one source of monitoring information, and it cannot guarantee detection of every failure or delivery of every message.
In a live service, prices are in US dollars and any applicable tax is shown before payment. Monthly and yearly plans renew until canceled. Upgrades show any prorated charge before confirmation. Downgrades take effect at renewal and require the account to fit the new limits. Extra check packs renew monthly; SMS packs and setup calls are one-off purchases.
Public content and access
You retain rights to the incident updates and other content you submit. You allow us to store and display that content where needed to provide the service. Status pages are public; review them before publishing internal details or personal information.
We may restrict access to address misuse, an unpaid invoice or an immediate security problem. Where practical, we give notice and a way to resolve the issue. Service changes that materially affect a paid plan should be explained before the next renewal.
Ending the service
Cancel renewal in account settings. Access continues until the paid period ends, subject to these terms. Export history you need before a downgrade or deletion. Refund requests follow the sample refunds page and do not limit rights that applicable law provides.
A final contract would identify the legal entity, liability limits and applicable dispute process. Those details require review before this sample is used for a real business. Contact hello@tern.example.com for service questions or billing@tern.example.com for invoices and cancellation help.
